Oval Galvanized Steel Wire for Cattle and Livestock Fencing
- Special oval cross-section — specified by major × minor axes, not a single diameter
- Controlled minimum breaking load, tied to a specific section, steel grade and test method
- Hot-dip zinc coating for outdoor agricultural exposure
- Long coils designed for field installation and tensioning
- Sold by section, breaking load, coating and coil format — not one “diameter” range
Made to order to your diameter, coating, tensile grade and standard — request a quote for price, minimum order quantity and lead time.

Section and minimum breaking load
| Major × minor section | Min. breaking load | Approx. SI |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0 × 2.4 mm | 600 kgf | 5.9 kN |
| 2.2 × 2.7 mm | 700 kgf | 6.9 kN |
| 2.4 × 3.0 mm | 800 kgf | 7.8 kN |
Tensile Strength
For oval fence wire, minimum breaking load is more useful to buyers than a generic tensile range. Confirmed loads run about 600–800 kgf (≈5.9–7.8 kN) across the 2.0×2.4 to 2.4×3.0 mm sections (see the table above). We record tensile strength, elongation and section area in the internal specification so each result stays traceable, and tie every published load to a specific section, steel grade and test method. Torsion or bend requirements are added only where the regional specification or customer drawing requires them.
Features
- Special oval cross-section specified by major and minor axes
- Controlled breaking load for tensioned livestock fencing
- Galvanized surface for outdoor agricultural use
- Long coils designed for field installation and tensioning
- Section, length, coating and load results available to the agreed inspection plan
- Custom labels and export bundling for regional distributors
Packaging & Shipping
Coils are secured to prevent spring-back and uncontrolled unwinding. We show the actual coil inside/outside diameter, number of ties, safe opening method, nominal length, length tolerance and net/gross weight, with high-tension coil-handling labels where appropriate. Theoretical and actual mass are calculated for each approved section rather than using one weight for every size.
- Coils to the confirmed length and unit weight
- Bundled or palletized export packs with protected labels
- Safe-handling labels for high-tension coils
Use cases
- Cattle and livestock perimeter fencing
- Tensioned line wire used with posts and clips
- Agricultural boundary fencing
- Non-insulated line wire in electrified systems where the system designer approves it
Who it is for
Fence-system manufacturers, agricultural wholesalers, ranch suppliers and importers serving markets where oval high-strength fence wire is a standard format.
Standards, certificates & inspection
Your regional section, coating and breaking-load requirement is the controlling specification; general zinc-coating and wire-test standards support the test methods. Every batch is produced under an ISO 9001 quality management system and can ship with a mill test certificate covering diameter, tensile strength and zinc-coating weight. Third-party or pre-shipment inspection (SGS, BV or customer-appointed) is available on request.
See test reports & inspection and quality control & testing for the full documentation.
Frequently asked questions
Why are two dimensions required?
Oval wire has a major and a minor axis; both are needed to define the section, mass and mechanical performance.
Can you quote by breaking load?
Yes, once the section, steel grade, coating, test method and minimum load are confirmed.
What coating mass should I specify?
Choose a coating based on your standard and exposure; we publish only validated coating ranges, not a generic service-life claim.
Can the wire be used in electric fencing?
It can act as a conductive line wire in a properly designed system, but insulators, energiser, grounding and installation are the system supplier’s responsibility.
