Low-Carbon Steel Wire for Steel-Wool and Cleaning-Pad Production (2.5–3.8 mm)

  • Diameter range: 2.5–3.8 mm (Zhongbo legacy range)
  • Intermediate feedstock a converter shaves or cuts into fine steel-wool filaments — not a finished pad
  • Bright/uncoated or process-specific surface (not galvanized unless a coated feedstock is required)
  • Chemistry, cleanliness, surface scale, tensile and continuity controlled for stable shaving
  • Long continuous coils to reduce converter downtime

Made to order to your diameter, coating, tensile grade and standard — request a quote for price, minimum order quantity and lead time.

Steel-wool wire is an intermediate low-carbon wire that a converter shaves or cuts into very fine filaments — we supply the feedstock, not the finished pad. The page focuses on what governs blade life, shaving consistency and filament quality: chemistry, cleanliness, surface scale, diameter, tensile strength, continuity and coil pay-off. We treat a bright/uncoated or process-specific surface as the default — the wire is not galvanized unless your process specifically needs a coated feedstock — and we make no food, medical or cookware safety claim for the finished pad, because we supply wire, not the complete consumer product.

Tensile Strength

Confirmed feedstock runs about 600–900 MPa. Tensile must support stable feeding and shaving without excessive brittleness or deformation, but a converter often cares more about hardness, microstructure, surface decarburization, inclusions and practical shaving yield — so we publish what we can test or control and recommend a trial coil before a bulk order.

Features

  • Low-carbon grade selected for steel-wool shaving/conversion
  • Controlled diameter, ovality and tensile condition
  • Clean surface with agreed scale and oil condition
  • Long continuous coils to reduce converter downtime
  • Surface-defect and wire-break controls
  • Qualification coils and batch traceability

Packaging & Shipping

Your pay-off and shaving line determine the coil format. We state coil ID/OD/height, net weight, winding style, end location, number of joins and surface protection, and avoid packaging contamination that could transfer into cleaning-pad production.

  • Z2/Z3-style carriers after confirmation
  • Spoolless or compact coils
  • Large coils for continuous conversion
  • Palletized, wrapped packs with batch labels

Use cases

  • Steel-wool filament production
  • Cleaning and polishing pad conversion
  • Industrial abrasive or finishing products after converter qualification
  • Other shaving/cutting processes using a low-carbon wire feedstock

Who it is for

Steel-wool manufacturers, cleaning-pad converters, abrasive-product companies and wire processors that qualify feed wire by shaving yield and surface condition.

Standards, certificates & inspection

A buyer-specific feed-wire specification controls, and a converter shaving trial is often the key evidence rather than a generic wire standard. We supply wire feedstock, not the finished pad, and make no food, medical or cookware safety claim for the finished product. Every batch is produced under an ISO 9001 quality management system and can ship with a mill test certificate covering diameter, tensile strength and zinc-coating weight. Third-party or pre-shipment inspection (SGS, BV or customer-appointed) is available on request.

See test reports & inspection and quality control & testing for the full documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Is steel-wool wire galvanized?

Not by default — we treat a bright/uncoated or process-specific surface as standard until your order confirms otherwise.

What surface condition is best?

You specify scale, oil, cleanliness and blade/process requirements; a trial coil is recommended.

Can you control wire joins?

We state the maximum number and identification of joins per coil once production confirms it.

Which documents can be supplied?

Diameter/tensile, chemistry, surface condition and coil traceability, when agreed and testable.
